Advocay, Legal & Legislative Information for the Hearing Impaired

Advocacy for your hearing impaired child is essential. If you have not already discovered it, no one will stand up for your child - it is up to you! This can be as simple as knowing about your child's IEP and ensuring accurate information is included but often times you must take stronger action.

On the legal front, knowing your child's rights is essential. You simply cannot count on agencies, public schools and other organizations to provide you with everything you need - often times you must fight for it.

On the legislative front, you can do a lot as an advocate for the hard of hearing / deaf. There is always new legislation at the Federal and state levels, in many forms, that impact the services you receive (such as the fight to require insurance companies to pay for hearing aids). We will try to keep you up to date on legislative activities that affect the community and when called for, ask you to take action by writing, calling or emailing your representatives!
