Astronaut's advice to hard of hearing Belfast Telegraph, April 5, 2005 Legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin has urged Ulster people not to "suffer in silence" over hearing loss. The second man to set foot on the moon told how he simply ignored his hearing problems - only to be shut off from the world. He was speaking just months after it was revealed that elderly Ulster patients were waiting an incredible four years - the longest in the UK - for a hearing aid. In an interview with the Belfast Telegraph he said: "No-one should suffer in silence. You must do something about your problems when they become apparent. "I didn't initially. "When your life has depended on effective communication between earth and the moon, your expectations remain extremely high." The 75-year-old history-making spaceman was speaking at the launch of the new bionic Savia hearing system at the European Space Agency HQ in Amsterdam.
